Dead Air Mask
vs
Dead Air RXD 22Ti

Which Rimfire Suppressor Fits Your Setup?

Whether you’re getting your first-ever suppressor or optimizing a target rifle, the .22 LR is one of the best cartridges to experience the real difference a suppressor makes. For years the Dead Air Mask 22 HD has stood tall as a proven direct-thread design, its hybrid stainless steel and a titanium construction offering excellent noise reduction with minimal weight.

But a new contender has stepped up: the Dead Air RXD 22Ti. Co-engineered with Ruger, this cutting-edge model trims off even more weight with a 3D-printed titanium Triskelion core and allows for quick cleaning thanks to the included XRF muzzle brake.

In the classic conundrum of established and reliable vs. new and innovative, we’re here to take you through step by step and help you decide whether the 22 HD or the 22Ti is the best Dead Air rimfire suppressor for you.

Build and Design Differences

Mask 22 HD

The Dead Air Mask 22 HD uses a classic stacked-baffle design made from 17-4 stainless steel for maximum durability while a Grade 9 titanium tube keeps overall weight low. Dead Air’s special design boasts a unique ability to minimize first round pop on both pistols and rifles, a key benefit when sound performance matters.

RXD 22Ti

The Dead Air RXD 22Ti prioritizes weight reduction with its modernized all-titanium build featuring a single-piece 3D-printed Triskelion core, simplifying cleaning and reducing weight. The included XRF muzzle brake serves as both a quick-attach point and a lead trap, extending the time between deep cleanings.

Mounting and Day-One Setup

The Dead Air Mask mounts directly to any 1/2×28 threaded rimfire barrel. Installation is straightforward and cross-compatible with nearly every rimfire host.

Conversely, the RXD 22Ti requires the installation of the included XRF brake, providing a secure and fast-swapping quick detach (QD) setup. For 5.7×28 pistols or carbines, confirm that the included brake fits your barrel thread pattern before installation.

Size, Weight, and Handling

The RXD 22Ti edges out the Mask in pure weight savings at 5.6 ounces (with mount), while the Mask remains slightly shorter and slimmer at 5.1 inches long and 1.07 inches in diameter.

On lightweight rimfire rifles or pistols with small-diameter rails, both models offer excellent sight clearance, allowing most stock sights to be used without issue.

Caliber Coverage and Restrictions

Both suppressors cover the full rimfire lineup (.22 LR, .22 MAG, 17 HMR, and 17 WSM) plus the increasingly popular 5.7×28, with neither listing a minimum barrel length.

However, while the Dead Air Mask is rated for full-auto in all of its supported calibers up to 5.7×28, the RXD 22Ti is only full-auto rated for .22 LR; all other calibers are restricted to semi-auto only.

Cleaning and Maintenance

The Mask’s stainless baffles tolerate aggressive cleaning methods, disassembling with the included end cap tool, making it easy to clear out carbon and lead.

The RXD 22Ti uses standard tools for disassembly and benefits from the XRF brake’s lead-capture design, which keeps the core cleaner for longer. Because the RXD is titanium, avoid harsh caustic solvents and follow the included manual’s cleaning recommendations to prevent surface damage.

What’s in the Box

Mask 22 HD: Suppressor, owner’s manual, end cap removal tool

RXD 22Ti: Suppressor, XRF rimfire muzzle brake, wrench kit, owner’s manual

RXD buyers should consider purchasing extra XRF brakes if they plan to move the suppressor amongst several firearms.
