SureFire SOCOM556-RC2 Details
The SureFire SOCOM556-RC2 is the suppressor selected by U.S. Special Operations Command for the M4 and Mk18 carbines — the result of what SureFire describes as the most extensive and rigorous suppressor testing ever conducted by SOCOM. It is chambered for 5.56 NATO with a 10-inch minimum barrel requirement, measures 6.4 inches in length and 1.5 inches in diameter, and weighs 17 oz. Construction is Inconel 718 and stainless steel with a high-temp Cerakote finish in black or Dark Earth. It attaches via SureFire's proprietary Fast-Attach system and is compatible with SureFire WARCOMPs, flash hiders, and muzzle brakes. The SOCOM556-RC2 is full-auto rated.
Features and Benefits
- SOCOM-certified: Selected by U.S. Special Operations Command for use on M4 and Mk18 carbines after extensive operational testing — the benchmark against which other 5.56 suppressors are measured
- Built from Inconel 718 and stainless steel for extreme heat tolerance and durability under sustained full-auto fire
- High-temp Cerakote finish resists corrosion and thermal degradation in field conditions
- SureFire Fast-Attach system mounts via SureFire WARCOMPs, SOCOM flash hiders, and SOCOM muzzle brakes — the lock ring uses a patented quarter-turn mechanism with an audible click confirmation and a permanent dry lubricant that requires no additional oiling
- Full-auto rated — consult the firing schedule section below for sustained-fire limits
- Patented fail-safe baffle design allows an unbalanced or defective projectile to pass through and continue downrange, preventing catastrophic baffle strikes
- Reduces sound, muzzle flash, and dust signature simultaneously
- Available in Black and Dark Earth (FDE)
- SureFire Lifetime Warranty for the original owner
Fast-Attach System
The SOCOM556-RC2 uses SureFire's patented Fast-Attach quick-detach system. To mount: depress the latch on the lock ring, rotate the lock ring to the unlocked position, slide the suppressor over the adapter, rotate until the indexing slot seats onto the adapter's indexing tab, then rotate the lock ring to locked until rotation stops — audible clicks will be heard. The lock ring should rotate approximately 180 degrees during installation. If it does not, the suppressor is not fully seated; remove and repeat.
When attaching to a host firearm for the first time, verify suppressor alignment using a bore rod before firing a suppressed shot. Contact SureFire Technical Support at 714-545-9444 if alignment is questionable.
Firing Schedule
The SOCOM556-RC2 is full-auto rated, but SureFire recommends limiting sustained fire to no more than 90 rounds before allowing the suppressor to cool. Firing beyond 120 rounds at high rate can create cookoff conditions — clear stoppages quickly and leave the chamber empty if this threshold is approached. The suppressor surface will reach temperatures that can cause severe burns after live-fire operations — allow adequate cooling time before handling.
Maintenance
The SOCOM556-RC2 requires minimal routine maintenance. For field cleaning, brush and scrape carbon and copper residue from the suppressor attachment area and adapter using a standard gun cleaning solvent. If alternating between different adapter types (for example, switching between a muzzle brake and a flash hider), clean the back section prior to re-attachment.
For armorer-level deep cleaning, SureFire's procedure calls for soaking the suppressor muzzle-down in CLR cleaner for 24 hours (do not submerge the lock ring — CLR will discolor the IonBond coating), then rinsing with water, brushing attachment areas, rinsing again, and firing 5-10 live rounds to expel loosened carbon. This process may be repeated annually or every 10,000 rounds.
The lock ring uses a permanent dry lubricant — no additional lubrication is required, though any weapons-grade oil may be used to facilitate smooth rotation.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the SureFire SOCOM556-RC2?
The SureFire SOCOM556-RC2 is a full-auto rated, SOCOM-certified 5.56 NATO suppressor selected by U.S. Special Operations Command for use on M4 and Mk18 carbines. It is built from Inconel 718 and stainless steel with a high-temp Cerakote finish and mounts using SureFire's Fast-Attach quick-detach system.
Is the SureFire SOCOM556-RC2 SOCOM certified?
Yes. The SureFire SOCOM556-RC2 was selected by U.S. Special Operations Command for use on M4 and Mk18 carbines following extensive operational testing. It is one of a small number of commercially available suppressors with direct SOCOM program selection credentials.
What is the mounting system on the SureFire SOCOM556-RC2?
The SOCOM556-RC2 uses SureFire's proprietary Fast-Attach quick-detach system. It is compatible with SureFire WARCOMPs, SOCOM flash hiders, and SOCOM muzzle brakes. The Fast-Attach lock ring uses a quarter-turn indexed attachment with audible click confirmation and a permanent dry lubricant built into the ring. Suppressor adapters are sold separately.
What muzzle devices work with the SureFire SOCOM556-RC2?
The SOCOM556-RC2 is compatible with SureFire Fast-Attach adapters including the SureFire WARCOMP flash hider/muzzle device combo, SureFire SOCOM 3-prong flash hiders, and SureFire SOCOM muzzle brakes. All must use the Fast-Attach adapter pattern — standard thread-pitch muzzle devices are not compatible.
What are the specs of the SureFire SOCOM556-RC2?
The SureFire SOCOM556-RC2 measures 6.4 inches in length, 1.5 inches in diameter, and weighs 17 oz. It is built from Inconel 718 and stainless steel with a high-temp Cerakote finish. Minimum barrel length is 10 inches. It is full-auto rated and available in Black and Dark Earth (FDE).
Is the SureFire SOCOM556-RC2 full-auto rated?
Yes. The SOCOM556-RC2 is full-auto rated. SureFire recommends limiting sustained fire to 90 rounds before allowing the suppressor to cool. Firing beyond 120 rounds at high rate can create cookoff conditions. Do not handle the suppressor immediately after live-fire operations — allow adequate cooling before removal.
How do I clean the SureFire SOCOM556-RC2?
Field cleaning involves brushing carbon and copper fouling from the suppressor attachment area and adapter with a standard gun cleaning solvent. For deeper maintenance, SureFire's armorer-level procedure involves soaking the suppressor muzzle-down in CLR cleaner for 24 hours (keeping the lock ring above the CLR to protect the IonBond coating), rinsing, brushing, rinsing again, and firing 5-10 live rounds to clear loosened carbon. This procedure may be done annually or every 10,000 rounds.
What is the warranty on the SureFire SOCOM556-RC2?
SureFire provides a Lifetime Warranty to the original owner. The warranty covers defects in workmanship and materials and includes repair, replacement, or refund at SureFire's determination. It does not cover normal wear, damage from non-SAAMI/NATO specification ammunition, unauthorized repairs, abuse, misuse, or neglect.
What is the difference between the SureFire SOCOM556-RC2 and the SOCOM556-RC3?
The RC2 and RC3 are both Fast-Attach 5.56 suppressors from SureFire. The RC3 is SureFire's newer model and incorporates design changes aimed at reducing backpressure. For a full side-by-side comparison of weight, length, backpressure data, mounting compatibility, and barrel rules, see our SureFire SOCOM RC2 vs RC3 guide.
