It started like a lot of good Texas stories do—before sunup, a thermos of coffee, and a dad who wanted to bring his kid along on a hunt. When Dave’s son was born deaf in one ear, he needed a way to keep his son’s hearing safe so they could make memories outdoors together. He found suppressors. Then he found out how hard they were to buy.
The first silencer he got nearly vanished in a paperwork black hole. The second came with a shrug and “good luck with the forms”. No clear answers, no help picking the right can, and a maze of questions without any answers or guidance.
From a kitchen table in Texas in 2010, Dave and his wife started Silencer Shop with a simple promise: make it easy for people to protect their hearing, enjoy shooting more, and exercise their second amendment right.
Boxes of suppressors stuffed in closets and under furniture turned into a storefront. The storefront turned into the nation’s largest suppressor distributor. Today we’re 100+ Texans strong, partnered with 6,000+ hometown dealers, still chasing the same promise—making silencer ownership simple.

2010
Dave Matheny founds Silencer Shop in Austin, Texas.
2013
Silencer Shop opens its first public storefront in Austin.
2015
Transitions into a national distributor and launches the Powered By Silencer Shop dealer program.
2016
After ATF Rule 41F, Silencer Shop rolls out its S.I.D. fingerprint kiosks nationwide.
2017
Introduces the Single Shot Trust to simplify NFA trusts, and debuts the Form 4 barcode system to speed up applications.
2022
Integrates ATF eForm 4 submissions into its dealer network.
2024
Unveils a new Silencer Shop Kiosk at SHOT Show. Expands headquarters to a larger facility in Leander, Texas. eForm 4 approval times drop to record-fast processing speeds.
2025
Launches the Silencer Shop Foundation and files suit against the ATF challenging suppressor restrictions.
