CGS Hyperion
vs
Hyperion K:

Which Titanium .30 Cal Suppressor Fits Your Build?

When maximum .30 cal sound suppression is your goal, it's hard to do better than the Hyperion series from CGS. The titanium construction prevents the cumbersome weight issues that often come with cans which prioritize sound-suppression above all else. Additionally, the internal coating mitigates the sparking issues seen in many other titanium silencers. With these advantages, the question becomes one of optimization: do you choose the top-tier noise reduction of the full length CGS Hyperion, or go high-speed and low drag with the lighter and shorter CGS Hyperion K?

Both suppressors are built from monolithic DMLS Grade 5 titanium, finished with CGS’s internal S-Line coating to reduce fouling and an external PVD finish for durability. But in the matchup between Hyperion vs Hyperion K, the question comes down to priority of features. Do you want what has been referred to as the quietest .30 cal suppressor on the market or you need a substantially shorter and lighter option that is slightly louder?

Our guide will help you get a handle on which suppressor is best for your needs.

Build and Technology

DMLS Titanium and S-Line Coating

Both the CGS Hyperion and CGS Hyperion K are built using direct metal laser sintering (DMLS), a 3D-printing process that produces monolithic (i.e. single-piece) titanium structures. The parts are heat-treated to give the cans an excellent strength-to-weight ratio. Inside, CGS applies an S-Line coating (low-friction boron nitride) to reduce fouling buildup and prevent sparking, while shallow taper joints in the mount design promote alignment and retention.

Variable Function via Front Caps

CGS front caps play a major role in tuning. Both suppressors ship with the Low Profile Front Cap, which emphasizes maximum suppression. Optional CGS Hyperion vented caps shift performance toward lower back pressure and reduced gas to face at the cost of reduced projectile velocity. This allows users to tailor the can for suppressed platforms without major host modifications.

Sound, Gas, and Use Intent

Independent testing positions the CGS Hyperion among the quietest .30-cal suppressors available, especially on bolt-action platforms. The tradeoff is relatively higher back pressure in semi-auto use, which can lead to increased gas to face (though ported caps can mitigate this). The CGS Hyperion K is shorter and trends louder at the muzzle but produces less back pressure, making it a better fit for semi-auto rifles where shooter comfort and maneuverability is a priority. Actual performance varies by host, barrel length, and ammunition. Though earlier models were not recommended for full auto use, modern specimens are safely capable of automatic fire.

Size, Weight, and Handling

CGS Hyperion

The CGS Hyperion’s 9.5 in. body makes it well suited to precision rifles, hunting setups, or semi-autos where maximum suppression and tone are priorities. Despite its stellar sound suppression, its 15.1 oz weight means it is lighter than many of its steel-bodied competitors.

CGS Hyperion K

The CGS Hyperion K trims about 3 inches in length and saves roughly 4.5 ounces, making it easier to carry in the field or run on compact carbines. Its shorter profile also helps preserve ergonomics on rifles without becoming front-heavy.

Mounting and Ecosystem Fit

Both suppressors use CGS’s 25-degree tapered direct-thread mount cut for 5/8×24. This system improves alignment and gas seal compared to flat-shoulder threads. If your barrel has a 90-degree shoulder and measures under 0.735 in. outside diameter (OD), you will need the hyperion thread adapter to ensure proper fitment. As with any suppressor, confirm bore alignment before firing.

What’s in the Box and Finish

Every suppressor ships with the titanium core and Low Profile Front Cap. Both models feature an S-Line internal coating and PVD external finish, which provides both corrosion resistance and a professional look. Optional vented caps and the Hyperion Thread Adapter are available separately.

Which CGS Hyperion Should You Buy?

Choose Hyperion if:

  • You want peerless sound suppression on .30 cal platforms.
  • You value a longer suppressor body for improved tone and flash control.
  • You plan to run .30-cal magnums like 300 Win Mag or 300 RUM and prefer a full-length titanium option.

Choose Hyperion K if:

  • You need a compact suppressor for minimized weight and rifle length.
  • You want reduced back pressure for improved comfort.
  • You prefer a lighter system that still delivers exceptional sound suppression.

Either way you get:

  • DMLS monolithic titanium construction with exceptional strength-to-weight ratio.
  • CGS tapered direct-thread mount with available adapter.
  • Front cap tuning options, including vented caps.
  • Easy checkout and support through Silencer Shop’s eForms process.

Installation and Setup Tips

  • Degrease the threads and apply a small amount of anti-seize to the taper before installation.
  • Torque the suppressor to 25–30 ft-lb per CGS guidance.
  • Confirm concentricity with an alignment rod before live fire.
  • Start with the Low Profile cap for maximum suppression; swap to a vented cap if gas blowback is noticeable.
  • Follow CGS barrel rules of minimum 10 inches for 5.56.
