One of the easiest ways to purchase an NFA item (such as a suppressor), is to use a trust.
We recommend creating the trust using one of these methods:
Use a Lawyer in Your State
We have a more detailed lawyer finder coming to the website soon; but, for now feel free to check out our lawyer referral page.
Talking to a lawyer is a great option if you want the additional peace-of-mind from talking to somebody in person.
As a side-note here, please don’t let somebody who isn’t a lawyer do it for you! Although it’s fine to create the trust yourself, a big problem people run into is letting a non-lawyer create it for them (including an NFA Dealer).
Do it Yourself
For people who want to save some time & money, you can create a trust on your own. The NFA Gun Trust on this page is a great example of a do-it-yourself option.
What you get with this trust
This NFA Gun Trust was specifically designed by a gun trust lawyer to work for NFA items, such as suppressors – and to be legal in all 50 states.
After purchasing, you will receive an email with a short & simple questionnaire. For most people, it will take about 5 minutes to answer the questions, and then you’ll receive a PDF trust document via email.
All you’ll need to do is print the trust out and have it signed & notarized – then you can use it to purchase your suppressor. It really is that simple!
The trust includes detailed instructions for adding or removing trustees and beneficiaries as well as property.
There is a lawyer that can provide technical support for this trust; but, they cannot give legal advice since this is a do-it-yourself option.
As mentioned previously, if you prefer to work with a lawyer, please check out our lawyer referral page. If, on the other hand, you want to get a quick & easy gun trust without spending as much money, this is a great option!
If you have additional questions about how to register your suppressor, please check out the details on this page.
