Trust note: Policies can change. Government fee refunds follow ATF procedures and timelines. Store credit and gift cards are separate from government fees.
Scenarios (pick your situation)
Tax stamps can only be exchanged or refunded if they have not been used. Submitted and approved applications are not eligible for any sort of refund. If you had an unused tax stamp purchase, we emailed you a $205 gift card you can use instantly at checkout.
If you would prefer a refund, we can assist. Please be aware that refunds will take multiple days to process and may incur credit card processing fees.
Choose the card that matches your status.
1) Approved
Your application is approved. Your tax stamp was redeemed and is not eligible for a credit.
2) Submitted, Processing, or Pending
Your eForm was submitted to ATF. If approved, the tax stamp will be used and not eligible for a credit. If disapproved or returned without action, we can assist with a tax stamp credit.
3) Withdraw or change items
If you withdraw your application, you can then get a credit for your tax stamp but would need to resubmit your application, adding significant time. We do not recommend withdrawing your application.
4) Denied or returned without action
Your application was denied or returned without action. We can assist with getting credit for your unused tax stamp.
5) Promotional tax stamps
Promotional tax stamps were unpaid and therefore are not eligible for credit.
I paid and the application is already approved
Outcome: Nothing changes. Your approval is still valid, and your Form 4 and tax stamp remain your proof for that item.
What to do now: Save your approval PDF (and print a copy). If you use a trust, make sure your trust paperwork is stored with the approval.
