Product Description

Silencerco’s Osprey family of pistol suppressors (or silencers, as often called) is a perfect blend of form and function.

With the modern combat handgun in mind, Silencerco set out to create a silencer that performs well and looks like it belongs, the best possible marriage between host weapon and silencer. Silencerco went to work to make a suppressor that maximizes sound suppression levels, allows the use of more host pistols with factory sights, and has more operationally friendly features. What was created was the Osprey pistol silencer available for 9mm, .40 S&W, and 45ACP.

Although round silencers are very effective for many applications, for a centerfire handgun round it has its limits. To obtain the most suppression, silencers must have as much internal volume as possible; but for a round tubular silencer, the only way to acquire more internal volume is by increasing the overall diameter and/or length. Increasing a tube’s diameter will obscure the site picture of the host gun and inhibit the possibility of holstering a weapon with the silencer still attached to the host gun.

The Osprey is an eccentric silencer, which means that the bore does not run down the middle of the tube. Because of this eccentric design, most of the baffles and internal volume is beneath the centerline of the bore and out of the way of the gun’s sights, thus leaving the shooter the ability to use factory sights with little or no sight or target obstruction. The Osprey has flat side walls and angled edges that mimic many modern combat handgun slides and is just slightly wider than most host pistols. This feature allows the host weapon to be holstered with many popular open bottom holster designs with Osprey attached. The Osprey contains approximately 30% more internal volume than a traditional round tube silencer at the same length, but does so without obscuring the shooter’s sight picture or adding excessive width and length.

At first I was a little off put but the lack of symmetry with the osprey, it quickly became apparent that it was function over form and many simple issues with traditional round suppressors had been resolved with the design. It’s also shorter and lighter then several other 9mm cans. After I watched the silencer shop db comparison video and got the chance to shot it in person I had to have it. So much so that I also had to have it in .45 as well. I am very pleased with the product and would recommend it highly.

Like the last reviewer, I also own the 9 and 45 version of this can. I am simply hooked on the looks. I own quite a few round silencers and they just aren’t in the same cool zone. Suppression level with both cans are as good as it gets. FRP is slightly annoying but is not a deal breaker at all. Like most, I shoot dry 95 % of the time. But every now and then, I squirt a little water or gel in and I still can’t believe how quiet it gets. Another factor not often mentioned is loads. There is variation between factory ammo we all know. Some better than others. But reloading allows perfection. Loading heavy bullets lightly, just enough to cycle your action reliably makes mega differences. Powder choices make mega differences. I can’t stress enough what I mean. I have tried many powders and I hate to say it to drive up demand, but vv N320 suppresses like nothing I have ever seen. No powder compares. No factory ammo comes close. A glock 19 with an osprey 9 and 147 grain bullets loaded with 3.5 grains vv n320 will astound you. If I had a meter, I’d guess it’s in the low 1-teens range. 5-10 decibels quieter at least than you’ll ever get with factory ammo. Anyhow. I also own the tirant 9 and wrote a review for it. I’d give up the tirant before the osprey. Just that simple.

I purchased this can from Silencershop and man is it sweet! I mount it on my Sig MK25 and I’ve shot it supersonic, subsonic and subsonic wet (wow is it quiet – like you can barely hear it when wet). Point of impact was ever so slight. I’m very pleased with the product. Sliencershop made the whole transaction super smooth, thanks again guys!

This is my Second purchase, and I have always received way beyond 5 star customer support, besides that this is the only place I’ve seen them discounted. Beyond thrilled with the osprey, worth the wait ;) insane machining must go into these. smooth and shinny. Was worried about weight on the end, not noticeable! well balanced.

Like the above reviewers, I am overwhelmingly happy with my Osprey 9MM. In all areas except one… the throw lever.

After using the throw lever to re-center the alignment of the suppressor with the gun on three different guns in 9MM, the throw lever hangs a little bit loose… a problem that I see getting worse over time, not better.

It isnt the level of tightness with the screw that locks in it place; that thing isnt moving AT ALL. Its the friction lessening over time from rubbing on the sliding locking mechanism. After one shot, boom, its hanging completely loose and the suppressor starts to freely twist.
